Laser Eye Surgery at LaserVue Eye Center

Dr. Bansal was one of the first eye surgeons in California to perform LASIK eye surgery. He specializes in iLASIK, a blade-free procedure that combines several state-of-the-art technologies for precision, maximum safety and excellent vision correction results. First, Dr. Bansal obtains a unique map of the eye and creates a corneal flap using the advanced femtosecond laser. Next, he utilizes the advanced VISX excimer laser to reshape the cornea, thereby eliminating even the smallest vision flaws. Dr. Bansal was among the first eye surgeons to bring this leading-edge technology to patients in the Bay Area. He has successfully performed more than 20,000 laser vision correction procedures. For patients who are not good candidates for iLASIK, Dr. Bansal offers several alternative vision correction treatments, including PRK, LASEK, Epi-LASIK and Visian ICLs (implantable contact lenses).

In addition to laser eye surgery, Dr. Bansal performs cataract surgery using advanced microsurgical techniques and a leading-edge ultrasonic device to break up and carefully remove the eye's clouded lens. He then replaces the lens with an intraocular lens implant (IOL), restoring pre-cataract vision. Most patients who receive IOLs experience clear vision at most distances and many are able to discontinue wearing eyeglasses and contact lenses. At LaserVue Eye Center, patients can choose from a variety of lens implants, including multifocal AcrySof ReSTOR or Tecnis lenses, as well as the accommodating lens implant known as Crystalens, originally designed to correct presbyopia.

More About Dr. Bansal

Jay Bansal, MD, received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska School of Medicine. He served a medical internship at the Los Angeles County Hospital and his residency at the University of Nebraska, where he was appointed Chief Resident his final year. Dr. Bansal completed fellowship training in cornea and refractive surgery at the Hermann Eye Center, an affiliate of the University of Texas Medical Center. He has served as an educator at several prestigious universities. Dr. Bansal is a proud member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the International Society of Refractive Surgery, the California Medical Association and the Ophthalmic Society of the Redwood Empire.
